Just a really quick email from me this week (and no audio version I’m afraid because my mic is packed up in my “studio bag” and I don’t have time to get it all out and set it up). But I shall keep it brief for those of you who prefer listening to reading.
The main reason I’m emailing is to let you know the official LAUNCH DATE!
Yes, that’s right. BAD SEX is coming out on Valentine’s Day. Come on! That’s a marketing no-brainer! Of course, you lovely lot will be getting it early. Each episode will drop into your inbox the Friday before the public release date.
The first episode will be with you in precisely two weeks time, on Friday Feb 11th. However one thing you can do *right now* to support the podcast is to go subscribe to it on whichever podcast platform you normally use. Having a healthy amount of subscribers will help boost its visibility when I release the new series.
Anyway, as promised, I’m going to leave it there. But scroll down if you want to read my progress report!
What I’ve been up to so far
Recording, editing, production admin
As I said last time, I’m just in the process of recording the final voiceover links and going back and forth with my producer on the final cuts. It’s been fiddly at times (for example, when I need to make edits or re-record lines that sound a bit off) but it’s also been illuminating to discover that things I didn’t notice on paper immediately stand out when I listen to them. Today I spent an hour making big edits to Episode 4 because what read as a straightforward set up of the story I was about to present, sounded bloody boring to listen to! There was a lot of medical information and explanation and straight away it was obvious I needed to restructure it. Mostly, though, it’s been little niggly things like a line I’ve slightly fluffed that I want to re-record or a section that I’ve realised needs trimming down.
I also made a little video tour of the studio in my local community centre.
What’s next
Being an indefatiguable bore about it on social media
Really looking forward to this part *sarcastic face*. But yeah, part of the publicity drive obviously involves shouting about it on social media. I don’t relish this kind of self-promotion, in the way that I don’t relish the prospect of trying to get editors and reviewers to write about the podcast. I am not at all about this hustle. But there’s no point making work you care about if nobody engages with it and people can’t engage with it if they don’t know about it so… better tell them, eh?
Right. Time to gird my loins and get on with it.
Thanks for the update! Will pre-emptively subscribe, forthwith.
YAAAAAAAAAS! So looking forward to it Franki!
